I wanted to share an update on our blueberry bushes. To protect the berries in our garden from the many birds around us, I gave George the idea of placing chicken runs around them. He found a great deal from a company that makes them. They can all be stand-alone, but instead, he joined them all together placing them end to end. We only have sixteen various bushes that will grow over six feet tall. He placed the cages end to end with doors on each end. He added landscaping fabric over the entire area before ever planting them to kill all the weeds and grasses. Then he amended the soil along the row and added irrigation. After planting, he built the cages over them.

You can see where he has been working hard to add the green bird netting. He also added a timer on the irrigation soaker hoses. It looks great and will be awesome when they start growing. The bees will be able to fly in and out as needed but the birds will not be able to enter. Don’t worry, I keep the bird feeders full and our area is full of wild blackberries and muscadine grapes!

Let me know what you think about our garden and thanks for visiting!
