We will be at the Conway Farmer’s Market this Saturday!
We will have homegrown Garlic, Onions, Carrots, and Cucumbers (if they are ripe). We will also have some chicken and duck eggs along with a few prints of my art.

Honey Update:
George checked yesterday and said all the honey will not be capped by Saturday, but when it is, we’ll have some. I cannot wait. He told me this morning that he might be splitting three hives this week, instead of the two he had originally planned. From what he has learned from a mentor, splitting them at the end of the spring season is best for honey production next spring.

Handmade Crates
I stained the new crates and some hives with Eco Wood last Saturday, so we’ll be using the new crates that George built, too. This was my first time using Eco Wood, and it was a bit weird for me. I’m used to painting and even staining, but this is a powder you mix into a gallon of water and is super thin. Different wood types will turn different shades of gray, and it will not cover any flaws, but I love the wood grain.

Our hives, made of cedar, turned darker than the pine crates. At first, I couldn’t tell if I’d missed any spots because it just looked like I’d wet the wood. Gradually, it grays. But then one of the hives I stained turned much darker than the others (it’s the one on the bottom left). I think either I made a whoopsy and stained it several times because I didn’t know what I was doing, or the wood for that hive was more porous. It only requires one coating and goes a very long way. It’s recommended for beehives and food crates and is non-toxic.
Other news:

Our Loofah is taking off and loving the rain we’ve been getting lately. They will be ready to prepare in the fall after drying and bleaching.
I had grown lots of baby aloe plants and have transplanted them into 4-inch pots that should be ready to sell soon.

We started a tray of Basil seed-starts that will be ready by the end of the month. I’d like to freeze-dry some basil when it matures, as well as sell the whole plant so folks can snip from their plants to get fresh basil when needed. YUM!
Hope to see you out on Saturday.
