Welcome our newest members to the farm, Merry & Pippin! We are not sure if they are boys or girls, as Emily hatched them in her little incubator. They grow much faster than chickens and are friendly. We have no idea what we are doing with them, but we’ll do our best!
They are just now big enough to stay outside during the daytime, so George and Em closed in a section of the chicken pen just for them, and she will bring them in at night for now. I don’t believe they can climb the ramp to the brooder. I think George will be making the ramp wider and with some sort of rails. I’ll keep you posted with updates.
Merry & Pippin are American Pekin ducks, which are generally raised for meat. They grow into heavy birds that cannot fly and originated from China. We will not be eating these babies, though. We placed them in a bowl of water on a warm sunny day. Enjoy.
